LEE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - One Eastern Kentucky jail is under quarantine due to hepatitis A.

Jail workers at Three Forks Regional Jail in Beattyville Monday morning told us the jail is quarantined for a health-related reason, but could not reveal more about the inmates' health conditions.

Monday afternoon, state health officials confirmed two inmates have been diagnosed with hepatitis A, and other inmates have possibly been exposed.

"We have two cases that are confirmed as of this time but again there is no risk to the general public," said Scott Lockard, the Public Health Director at the Kentucky River District Health Department.

Health officials say there is currently no risk to the public. Vaccinations for the whole jail will be made available Tuesday at 10 a.m.

"We're working with jail officials there to follow up appropriately to do the appropriate post-exposure prophylaxis," said Lockard.

We do not know how long the jail will be quarantined at this time.

"Several of them [inmates] may have been exposed to the inmate that tested positive and so we want to follow up accordingly," said Lockard.

We will update this story if any more cases of hepatitis A are confirmed.
